Cote d'Ivoire hit the headlines in 1999 when a coup shocked the world. Several others followed and pacification of the country became a reality in 2007 after the signing of an agreement with the dissident forces.

Today, Cote d'Ivoire is now being marketed as one of the top destinations in Africa with its vast collection of historical churches and places, a variety of animals and plants in all sizes and its wondrous landscape.

Here, you experience Africa at its best as you can explore its forests and plains and have a night out with the beasts in the jungle. A reminder though, bring your flash light when you go out, I'm pretty sure you'll be at your wits end by the time you go back for fear of coming face to face with a lion.

Cote d'Ivoire is one African country that provides a variety of exciting holiday opportunities for both the adventurous and the lazy sun seeker. Adventure seekers need not worry about the way of life of the people in this African country because it is the most prosperous of the tropical African states.

Parc National De La Comoe is the most popular park, it attracts many tourists for its various game animals. The park is located in the elevated Savannah and forest in the north east of Cote d'Ivoire. Camoe occupies over 4, 300 square miles. The various game animals include lions, elephants, hippos, and a variety of birds. Tourists will take away with them some wonderful memories.

The famous Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix, which is located at Route de Daloua, Yamoussoukro, is an architectural highlight in the country. The vanity project of Felix Houphouet- Boigny is present here. It is a vanity project that symbolises the tragedy of Ivorian history. The Basilique is the world's largest Christian place of worship. It was modelled on Rome's St. Peter's, although the dome is slightly shorter due to a papal intervention. The architecture of the Basilica is a superb work of religious art. It is promoted to tourists who have a high regard for architecture.

The Grand Bassam attracts the beach goer tourists. The beach is a demonstration of the fading colonial glory and long stretches of beach lined with hotels and seafood restaurants. People can enjoy the delicious delicacies of Cote d'Ivoire in these seafood restaurants. Many establishments surround the sea shore. The place has the most beautiful sunset and sunrise. Tourists come from all over to get a glimpse of the unique shades of sunset.

Other attractions include the Parc National de la Comoe. This park is the largest and best-known national park because it has plenty of wildlife including lions, hippos, elephants, species of monkeys, antelopes and many variations of birdlife. Tourists will be amazed by the uniqueness and beauty of the wildlife.
